Last November, our troop packed up and headed to Boston for a few days of history, cold air, and clam chowder. It was one of those trips where everything just clicks.
We walked the Freedom Trail start to finish — Paul Revere’s house, the Old North Church, Faneuil Hall. Seeing these places in person hits differently than reading about them. The boys were into it, which honestly surprised me.
Bunker Hill was the highlight. Two hundred and ninety-four steps to the top, and every single scout made it. The view over the harbor was worth every one of them.
We wrapped up with a visit to the USS Constitution. Learning that cannonballs literally bounced off her hull in battle — “Old Ironsides” isn’t just a nickname — had everyone speechless for about thirty seconds, which is a record for this group.
Troop 5, you did great. Already looking forward to the next one.
