Jack’s Eagle Project: Honoring Anna & Helping Families in Need

Life Scout Jack E. is working toward his Eagle rank with a personal and impactful project. Jack is honoring the memory of his sister Anna, who passed away at age six due to mitochondrial disease — a rare, complex, and often misunderstood illness.

Mitochondrial disease occurs when the mitochondria — the tiny structures in our cells responsible for creating energy — don’t work properly. This can affect nearly any organ in the body and cause a wide range of symptoms, including muscle weakness, developmental delays, neurological issues, and organ failure. Because there is currently no cure, treatment focuses on managing symptoms and supporting affected families through complex journeys.

To help make a difference, Jack is partnering with the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (UMDF) to collect used medical equipment and get it into the hands of families who need it most. Many families face steep medical expenses and ongoing care needs so that this effort will have a real impact.

Jack is kicking off his project with a fun and meaningful fundraiser — a private movie night at SOPAC, open to all MAPSO families!
