Scout Reports from the Field

Backpacking in the Catskills

By Conrad We just got back from a backpacking trip out to White Lake, NY, and I’ll be honest β€” the weather did not make it easy. Temperatures dropped more than expected, and the boys felt every bit of it. But that’s the thing about this troop. When the conditions get rough, they get better.…

Rise Against Hunger

By Patrick. It was the crisp Saturday afternoon of March 14th when six Troop 5 scouts and community volunteers gathered inΒ  Wyoming Presbyterian Church. They donned their hair nets and put on gloves with the goal to fill 5,000 bags of food for food-insecure kids in Burundi. There were four jobs: bag fillers, who had…

Explore the World with Troop 5

Troop 5 scouts don’t just read about adventure β€” they plan it, pack for it, and lead it. Every month brings a new campout. Every summer brings two weeks in the Adirondacks. And every couple of years, a crew of scouts heads somewhere extraordinary β€” Philmont, the Virgin Islands, the backcountry. The outdoors is where this troop does its best work.

A Unique Approach
to Scouting

Troop 5 has been run the same way since 1920 β€” by the scouts themselves. When you join Troop 5, you don’t just show up. You plan the campouts, run the meetings, lead your patrol, and take responsibility for your own experience.

Adults in Troop 5 are here to guide and support β€” not to run the show. That’s the Patrol Method, and it’s what makes the difference between a troop that produces followers and one that produces leaders.

The results speak for themselves. Over 150 Eagle Scouts since 1929. Eight in 2025 alone. 27 summers at Camp Massawepie. Scouts who go on to serve their communities β€” and come back years later to give the next generation the same experience they had.
