Summer Means Troop 5 ‘Bivouac’ at Camp Massawipie

By Peter D.

Bright and early in the morning, we set off to upstate New York to the beautiful Massawipie Scout Camp for the two-week long Troop 5 summer camp.

After 6 long hours of the bus snaking, Scouts watching movies, and waiting, we made it and quickly claimed our tent spots for the next two weeks.

We checked, then hopped in the always warm water for the swimming skills check.

During the first week, we prepared our food, which resulted in both delicious and challenging meals for our cooks. I was delighted to be a part of the Bull Patrol alongside our exceptionally skilled cooks.

We all had a lot of fun in our merit badges and meeting new people in the first week.

Then the weekend came, and some of us woke up extra early to go on a hike.

We went to Tabletop Mountain; although the view wasn’t great, the hike was still fun.

Meanwhile, the younger scouts played frisbee and other things.

When we came back, they had dinner ready to go.

On Sunday, we had a relaxed day, enjoying brunch and doing laundry.

Then it was back to merit badges and more fun for a second week, except we ate at the dining hall, which was nice.

Unfortunately, we had to eventually go home for the rest of the summer.
