Troop 5, Maplewood NJ

Backpacking in the Catskills

By Conrad

We just got back from a backpacking trip out to White Lake, NY, and I’ll be honest — the weather did not make it easy. Temperatures dropped more than expected, and the boys felt every bit of it.
But that’s the thing about this troop. When the conditions get rough, they get better. Packs stayed on backs, boots kept moving, and nobody complained more than was absolutely necessary.
The nights were the best part. Once camp was set and the fire got going, everything slowed down. Wet boots by the fire, food that somehow tastes incredible outdoors, and the kind of conversation you can only have when there’s no signal and nowhere to be. Troop 5 knows how to make a campfire worth sitting around.
White Lake didn’t go easy on us, but we didn’t need it to. That’s kind of the point.
Good trip, guys. See you on the next one.
