On Saturday afternoon, September 26, Troop 5 joined Wyoming Presbyterian Church for its Rise Against Hunger meal packing event in Fellowship Hall. The goal was 10,000 meals. Together, we beat it: more than 10,000 meals packed in two hours.
Eleven Scouts and their adult leaders worked alongside church members and families of all ages.
How It Came Together
Fellowship Hall filled with long tables and volunteers in hairnets and gloves. Our Scouts ran the scooping stations, measuring rice and vegetables through a funnel into each bag. Down the line, volunteers weighed, sealed, and laid out the finished bags. Then the bags were boxed and taped.
By the end of the afternoon, a shrink-wrapped pallet of boxes stood outside the church, ready to ship. Every bag holds six meals. Rise Against Hunger sends them to schools, clinics, and communities around the world where food is scarce.
This is what a Good Turn looks like: a couple of hours, a lot of hands, and food on someone’s table. Thank you to Wyoming Presbyterian Church for inviting us, and to every Scout, parent, and leader who came out.
Next Up
The church runs this event twice a year, and Troop 5 will be back. Watch the troop calendar for the spring date.
