September ‘On the Beach’

By Peter D.

Troop 5 went to the Joseph A Citta Scout Reservation to camp by the beach in September.

We drove up to the Scout reservation on a Friday night, arrived around 9 p.m., and set up camp.

Early in the morning, we woke and had a quick cold breakfast to leave more time for the beach.

We changed into bathing suits and headed off to the beach.

It was a brisk, sunny September morning.

Once we arrived 20 minutes later, we immediately set up our chairs and towels to commence the hole digging.

“Once everyone was tired of digging and sunburnt to a crisp, we packed up and went back to the camp site for dinner.”

As this is a tradition among Troop 5, of course many Scouts forgot to reapply sun screen in the excitement of a great dig and wound up burned half-way through the trip.

Once people started to get tired of digging, people started to cool off and boogie board in the water while the adults watched from the comfort of their chairs, protected from the sun by umbrellas.

Once everyone was tired of digging and sunburnt to a crisp, we packed up and went back to the camp site for dinner.

As the sun started to set, people began eating dinner and making the fire for a campfire.

Once people got their skits together, people gathered around and performed their skits and songs.

Luckily, we saw the return of ‘Tommy the Mobster,’ a rap battle between the Fox Patrol, and some songs by a long-time Assistant Scout Master to wrap up the camp fire.

Once everyone got their share of roasted marshmallows, we put out the fire and went to bed.

Sunday wasn’t too exciting; we had breakfast, cleaned up and went home.
