Troop 5 Olympics at ‘Camp Tabora,’ Visit to Observatory

By Peter D.

At the end of May, we left around 7 p.m. as usual.

About 45 minutes later, we arrived and set up camp at ‘Camp Tabora,’ a campsite owned by a longtime Troop 5 Assistant Scout Master.

We slept and got up at around 7 a.m.

We all had a non-cooking breakfast, worked on some rank advancement, and hung out before the games began.

Once the games were set up, we had a fierce competition between the patrols.

We played ‘Capture the Flag,’ ‘Rope of Mild Discomfort,’ and many more fun games.

In the end, only one patrol was victorious but all of us were tired so we rested back at camp before dinner.

“Then we all headed home for a much needed shower and more rest.”

We cooked dinner and waited for it to get dark.

Once dinner was finished and cleaned up, we headed over to the Paul Robinson Observatory at Voorhees State Park.

We saw all the cool constellations and even some planets, which were all very cool but as it got late, we were very tired so we headed back to get some rest.

In the morning, we ate breakfast and went to vespers in the beautiful landscape before pickup.

Then we all headed home for a much needed shower and more rest.
